Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc. (PALKI) is pleased to announce the winner of the 150th Anniversary logo contest, local artist Drew Fagan.  Drew’s winning design was one of five designs he submitted and was selected from the 26 individual logo designs submitted by 10 local artists.  He will receive several items for submitting the winning design, including a Lifetime Lighthouse Membership, plaques in the Gift Store, Museum and Lighthouse Tower recognizing him as the creator of the logo, logo merchandise, two nights in his choice of any of the Lighthouse’s six vacation cottages and more.  PALKI will formally present the prizes to Fagan at its 150th Anniversary Celebration event on Friday, May 1 at the Lighthouse.

PALKI is so thankful for the amazing response from the local art community to our logo contest.  The quality and diversity of the entries really made for a tough choice but we are extremely happy with Drew’s winning design.  Gift Store Manager Elyse Chavez is already hard at work designing outerwear, caps, patches and more that use the logo and that merchandise will start showing up in the Gift Store soon.

The logo was chosen by the PALKI Board of Directors and PALKI employees.  After the first round of voting the final selection was pared down to three designs – from Drew, Bruce Jones and Lauren Sinnott – and the voters chose Drew’s design although it was a very close vote.

Drew received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stanford University with specialties in Oil Painting and Graphic Design. After Stanford, he spent 43 years working in Advertising as an art director, copywriter, TV producer and Creative Director for a major international ad agency in the U. S., Argentina, Europe and Japan and as owner of his own advertising creative business in Los Angeles and Atlanta. He sold his company in 2004 and moved to Gualala to return to his initial love of painting. Since then, he has had many solo and group shows throughout the U. S. and in Paris, Tokyo and Monaco. He has also designed websites and logos for several local entities.

Drew was so enthusiastic when he found out his design had been chosen.  He immediately offered to work with Elyse and Executive Director Mark Hancock on finalizing the design so that it could be used for many different merchandise applications. Being an experienced Graphic Artist, Drew provided us with multiple file formats so that we could meet individual vendors’ requirements.  He is also donating his time and skills to design 150th Anniversary billboards, road signs and banners.  He has truly gone above and beyond the basic request for a logo and we very much appreciate all the great work he is doing to make this 150th Anniversary special.

A special display of all the submitted designs has been installed in the Whale Watch Room of the Fog Signal Building as a way of recognizing all of the artists that created logo designs for the contest.

PALKI is deeply grateful to the artists that submitted designs and is looking forward to using Drew’s winning design on 150th Anniversary merchandise that will be offered in our Gift Store and as special gifts for 150th Anniversary donations to the Lighthouse!
